Position Summary
The KINDI Center for Computing Research is seeking high caliber candidates for a research associate position in the area of artificial intelligence (AI). The applicant should possess a PhD degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related fields from an internationally recognized university and should demonstrate an outstanding research record in AI and related subareas (e.g., machine/deep learning (ML/DL), computer vision, robotics, natural language processing, etc.) and fields (e.g., data science, big data analytics, etc.). The position is available immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and quality research in areas related to cybersecurity that are tailored to the need of KINDI Center.
  • Support research and development activities of the KINDI Center in cybersecurity and all cyber and information security subareas.
  • Build and lead collaborative teams that can conduct quality research in the area of cybersecurity.
  • Foster and cultivate new research initiatives by developing/proposing new research programs and getting research grants to fund those programs.
  • Engage in outstanding scholarly activities leading to national, regional, and international recognition.
  • Promote partnerships and support collaboration with external organizations and industrial institutes inside and outside Qatar.
  • Conduct specialized workshops such as short courses or seminars on contemporary issues.
  • Candidate may be required to teach one course per academic semester based on demand and qualifications.
  • Assist in preparing the center’s budget, annual reports, and strategic plan, and the acquisition and management of research equipment and infrastructure.
  • Disseminate research results through publications, educational programs, and presentations.
  • Support the center in organizing relevant activities and events.

  • To plan, coordinate, and manage a diverse set of President Office innovation projects and initiatives; including reporting, monitoring, budgeting, and risk mitigation actions.
  • Undertake leadership in development, execution, and/or management of assigned innovation projects to ensure that implementations and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
  • Conduct subject-matter/field research and reviews in areas related to the assigned innovation projects and feedback major findings into the involved stakeholders for shaping the design of innovation projects execution
  • Coordinate innovation projects activities, assign tasks and provide guidance to personnel responsible for specific functions or phases of the innovation projects implementation (includes team meetings, presentations, communications to teams and meeting minutes, etc.).
  • Explain the innovation projects and individual responsibilities for key stakeholders involved in the inception, design, and/or execution phases.
  • Work with the innovation projects teams to develop overall actions roadmaps and resources requirements.
  • Prepare or participate in the preparation of reports, funding proposals, presentations, operations and procedure manuals, and other written materials and documentations as required.
  • Review reports and records of activities to ensure progress is made towards specified innovation projects and initiatives objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate policies and procedures concerning the innovation projects and initiatives administration.
  • Manage/coordinate change management and risk management components of the assigned strategic initiatives and monitor any emerging issues.
  • Inform management in a timely manner of any roadblocks to the innovation projects objectives so that appropriate actions are taken.
  • Perform any necessary strategic execution tasks related to the assigned innovation projects, such as operational and tactical alignment, development of KPIs, targets, metrics tracking, and business impact.
  • Upon necessities, participate in pilots undertaken under some of the innovation projects under implementation, such as curricular design and/or teaching.
  • Develop and implement innovation management training seminars, programs, and faculty and staff innovation development activities, and evaluate their impact
  • Develop and implement assessment, evaluation, and research methodologies related to innovation projects impact evaluation; scholarly disseminate the implementation experiences and outputs.
  • Lead or help in organization of national and international innovation events in collaboration with other office members and key stakeholders internally and externally
  • Any other duties as assigned by direct line manager.

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc preferably in information systems, computer science, industrial and systems engineering (or any other related engineering or quantitative field; MBA is a highly desired),
  • PhD or terminal degree in Innovation Management, Project Management, Strategic Management, Systems Engineering, Higher Education Management, or closely related field; or Academic Rank at Assistant Professor
  • PMP/PMI, CSM certificate, and Six Sigma Certification are highly desirable
  • English Language
  • Arabic Language (Preferable)
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a strategic innovation project management
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Experience or familiarity with higher education settings.
  • Experience in design thinking, design doing, systems thinking, and agile development methods is highly desired.
  • Experience in initiatives planning and project management with consulting firms, NGOs, or government agencies is plus.
