The Manager of IT Security Operations role with Penguin Random House, is for a hands-on technical role which requires good interpersonal and communication skills.  Within the role you will be responsible for security related tasks, including the implementation of security operations center, and other operational duties.  The responsibilities will vary from managing a team of analysts and working with the engineering and architecture group to provide defense in depth, performing assessments of security posture, making practical recommendations to reduce risks, helping realize change within the organization, and prevention and remediation of security vulnerabilities within cloud and traditional infrastructure using existing or new solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, recommend, and develop capabilities to cover security gaps.
  • Assist in enhancing processes and procedures across the environment.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for technical issues within the program and work on security projects that will further mature the program.
  • Provide direction on industry best practices to ensure the SOC constantly evolves as a Next Generation SOC.
  • Apply principles, methods, and knowledge of the functional area to specific task requirements to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Conduct host forensics, network, log analysis, and malware triage in support of incident response investigations.
  • Implement the MITRE Adversarial Tactics, Techniques, and Common Knowledge (ATT&CK) framework for Intelligence Operations.
  • Create security controls through “user stories” based on NIST SP800 guidance, and industry best practice to mitigate security risk or gaps in the security posture.
  • Organize, categorize, and prioritize user stories and provide updates to allow efficient and effective re-use of stories across the enterprise, ensuring they contain testable acceptance criteria, and are documented in a format which is easy to share and explain along with having a clear definition of done.
  • Support the design and deployment of incident response security solutions to facilitate a comprehensive defense-in-depth strategy and intrusion defense chain methodology.
  • Provide engineering and technical assistance to support vulnerability scans, penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, scan analysis, and security analysis.
  • Develop monthly reports that provide operational context on incidents that occur within the environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in security operations.
  • 2+ years of experience in security incident response.
  • 2 years of management experience
  • Proficiency in Splunk, searching, alerting, dashboard creation, use case creation and tuning.
  • Experience with scripting language such as JavaScript, Python, Perl, Groovy, Rudy, etc. and strong skills writing SPLUNK queries to create complex SPLUNK dashboards.
  • Experience implementing the MITRE Adversarial Tactics, Techniques, and Common Knowledge (ATT&CK) framework.
  • Proficiency in investigating malicious behavior in cloud (AWS and Azure) and on-premise environments.
  • Security certifications beneficial but not required.

We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our team! In this role, you will assist the Senior Vice President, Editor in Chief; and a Vice President, Executive Editor at Random House. As the flagship imprint of the Random House Publishing Group, Random House has a distinguished history of publishing award-winning and bestselling fiction and nonfiction across a variety of genres, including literary fiction, biography/memoir, narrative nonfiction, science, history, and culture.

As an Editorial Assistant, you will contribute to and immerse yourself in a creative and hands-on department renowned by readers as the go-to publisher of important works of both fiction and nonfiction, and get exposure to all aspects of the editorial process from proposal to published book. You will be responsible for daily editorial activities, such as reading and providing input on proposals and manuscripts, drafting copy, participating in the development of new book ideas, researching trends and competition, and all-around project support, including working closely with production, for two senior members of the imprint. In addition to providing administrative support, this position also acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the Random House Publishing Group.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-starter who is invested in learning about the publishing industry. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate manuscripts and proposals and provide feedback to your editors and the editorial team on both fiction and nonfiction projects submitted by agents.
  • Research trends and competition, including sales research on comp titles (books that may be comparable in terms of potential sales, audience, reader interest)
  • Draft flap copy (the synopsis/pitch of the book) and Title Information sheets
  • Manage communication with authors/agents, as well as within the editorial department
  • Track and log agented submissions
  • Draft contract requests and production & financial estimates for book acquisitions.
  • Collaborate and manage information flow between editorial and other internal departments such as production, managing editorial, marketing, publicity, art, and rights
  • Coordinate the editorial and production process, including the management of several production schedules for the editors’ titles.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling, phone answering, copying, filing, managing expenses, etc.

Job duties:

This position provides tremendous growth potential and affords an opportunity to work with some of our most popular house authors including Cheryl Strayed, Colson Whitehead, Anand Giridharadas, and Jennifer Egan.  The Assistant will provide general support to the Speakers Bureau team within the Knopf Doubleday division, reporting to the Executive Agent Director, and will:

  • Support Executive Agent Director with event coordination including creating contracts, booking travel when applicable (coordinating with event sponsor, speaker, and in-house travel agencies), and creating and updating detailed speaker itineraries.
  • Liaise directly with speakers and event sponsors on logistical details related to the events.
  • Maintain and update database including contact management, event details, and finances in coordination with the Speakers Bureau finance team.
  • Respond to general speaker inquiries from potential event sponsors by email and phone.
  • Aid the Speakers Bureau marketing team with the creation of content for the PRHSB website and social media channels, including drafting and updating speaker profiles and monitoring speaker news alerts.
  • Execute departmental mailings, research, and pitches to promote speakers to potential sponsors.
  • Work closely with Speakers Bureau staff cross-divisionally.
  • Attend company meetings to identify potential speakers as well as virtual and local speaking events.
  • Provide administrative support for Executive Agent Director and Assistant Agent Director.
  • Additional assignments, projects, and responsibilities, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Relevant internships and/or equivalent work experience required.
  • Candidate should demonstrate an exceptional ability to communicate in a very professional manner, have outstanding organizational skills, and a diplomatic approach to negotiations.
  • We are looking for someone who has the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in book publishing is beneficial, but not required.
  • Candidate should also be a self-starter and must have impeccable attention to detail.
