Penguin Books Limited UK Jobs Description 2021

Do you always carry a book with you? Have a kindle bursting with the next must-read books? Love a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat?

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Sales Operations Coordinator to join the commercial fiction publishing team at Viking, an imprint of Penguin General, one of the Publishing Houses at Penguin Random House. From hilarious rom-coms to gripping crime thrillers, we’re looking for someone to work on authors including Sunday Times Bestsellers Richard Osman, Cara Hunter and Josie Silver as well as to help us discover incredible new talents.

As a crucial member of this fun, dynamic and supportive team, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the skills of editing and publishing from some of the best in the business and will be responsible for:

  • Reading manuscripts and writing descriptions for book jackets and catalogues
  • Working closely to support the Publishing Director, managing diaries, arranging meeting agendas and taking minutes
  • Overseeing books on their publishing journey from manuscript to finished book
  • Working closely and collaboratively with colleagues in production, sales, copy editorial and communications

We are looking for someone who is an avid reader, and has an eye for what makes a great book unputdownable. You need to have a way with words, to be able to write compelling book descriptions to grab reader’s attention. You’ll be an excellent communicator, comfortable talking to authors and their agents, and great at keeping your colleagues updated on the progress of tasks. If you are super organised, have great attention to detail, and are able to prioritise and manage a busy workload, you’ll enjoy this role.

You don’t need to have previous publishing experience to succeed in this role. Experience of Microsoft Office would be valuable, but most importantly, we want someone passionate about our books! We are currently working remotely but expect this role to transition into our Vauxhall Bridge Road offices in London. Interviews will be conducted over video call.

If this sounds like you, please apply with a CV and cover letter by 31st May.
As part of your cover letter, tell us about a story you have noticed has recently won the hearts of audiences – it could be a new book, film, TV show or play – and a short explanation (around 300 words) on why you think that is.

Salary: You‘ll start on £24,000. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role and a further £1,000 on your second to reflect your growing contribution.

  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended Parental Leave policy
  • 60% Discount on Company books
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders
  • We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

Are you driven to keep things running smoothly?

Online sales are at the forefront of our business, and our Sales Operations team are looking for a proactive problem-solver to join them as Coordinator to support all areas of the Amazon UK physical supply chain. This is a new role with great scope, working with teams across our business, and all Penguin Random House UK divisions, to enhance our data provision and troubleshoot order management.

You’ll be working closely with colleagues in Sales, Inventory, Customer Services and Distribution, and directly with our customers, to report on and help drive efficiencies from the supply of orders through to receipt, and to assist with aspects of all our customer operations. You will also own the flow of information on deliveries, maintaining tracking and reporting at title and group level to the business.

Operating within a fast-moving supply chain and complex organisation, data analysis skills and attention to detail will be essential; you should have experience with manipulating and drawing insight from information in Excel, and knowledge of business intelligence or ERP systems would be beneficial.  Liaising with an array of different contacts on a daily basis, you will also be a confident communicator and adept at building relationships, able to juggle competing priorities.

Experience of publishing is not required, but working across the breadth of the PRH UK catalogue would certainly complement an interest in books, as you’ll play an important part in getting our authors’ works into the hands of readers.

If you think this sounds like the role for you, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV and cover letter by Sunday 26th September.
