Job Title

Manager, Product Management – Mastercard Send
In the last few years, Mastercard has developed products in the Cross-Border payments space, “XBS” products. In QIKO – Qatar, Kuwait & Oman, we have established partnerships with entities active in the Cross-Border payments. We are looking to scale those partnerships and to establish more.
The candidate will be part of the “Cross Border Services” sales team and will demonstrate the initiative and ownership as an individual contributor, raise the bar and challenge the boundaries to corner new payment flows using XBS product.
Key accountabilities
The candidate will ensure that XBS products strategy is implemented in close alignment to market objectives and deliver commercial product launches and success.
Key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Meet the volume and scale objectives for XBS in by shaping and aligning the product to the go-to-market strategy.
  • Partner with global and regional product teams to understand product capabilities, provide inputs to ensure market needs are addressed, synergize with other initiatives, and ensure ongoing coordination for smooth operation of the product in market.
  • Lead client engagements to communicate product strategy, innovation, business building strategies and ensuring sign ups.
  • Engage Marketing, Communications, and other colleagues to support the successful launch of products and ensure optimum visibility and utilization of budgets and investments on the product.
  • Coordinating (at internal and customer level) the end-to-end implementation of the service with new customers: due diligence process, contract and commercial negotiations, financial set-up, service roll-out.
  • Managing complex analyses using data from multiple sources, in order to build strategic intelligence for both Mastercard and customers.
  • Supporting and developing strong internal relationships within Mastercard to enable all team members to achieve their business goals and differentiate XBS products from the competition.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Several years of experience in remittances with leading money transfer operators or banks.
  • A keen understanding of bilateral / correspondent banking for B2B and P2P payments is a definite plus.
  • Exposure to mobile money/card payment industry is desirable.
  • Experience in managing a product from conception to scale is desirable.
  • Qatar based candidates preferred with relevant market experience and vintage.

The role of is responsible for developing and executing the Acceptance Strategy to deliver the priorities set for the market. The scope includes traditional & digital acceptance and promoting related Mastercard products, platforms & services to acquirers, third parties and strategic merchants in markets and regionally.

Mandate includes:

  • Leading the development & execution of Acceptance Strategy (traditional & digital)
  • Working with a focus on ‘New Places to Pay & New Ways to Pay’ to realize the vision of a “World beyond Cash”. Special focus on opening B2B acceptance, Digital including MPQR (Masterpass QR) and adopting relevant new technologies to advance safe, secure and convenient payments
  • Supporting engagements with key acquirers, strategic merchants and third parties to grow existing business, identify new opportunities with a focus on B2B and create new value propositions leading to a deeper Mastercard engagement and stronger mutually beneficial relationship
  • Organizing & partnering thought leadership activities, tracking competitive actions, following & implementing regulatory / compliance mandates & understanding emerging consumer trends
  • Build XB framework and diversify revenue streams

To support the above priorities, the individual will be required to balance & operate at both strategic and operational level, working with high levels of empowerment and accountability.
The business unit is responsible for delivering annual revenues, locations growth and increase acceptance locations in 2021. This is an individual contributor role.
The individual will also be required to partner with functional teams and country / cluster heads to identify, execute and position Mastercard as the brand of choice across stakeholders including customers, merchants and cardholders. The role holder will engage with product & acceptance counterparts regionally to align and deliver on a common set of goals within the Acceptance agenda.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Construct the annual acceptance plans to achieve business performance on agreed metrics including GAV, Revenue, Acceptance footprint (metrics like new merchants, categories, terminals and quality, operational efficiency)
  • Own execution to deliver the annual acceptance plan for acceptance. Tracking and delivering on agreed acceptance agenda for the division by market
  • Establish and build relationships with broader Market Development team, as with other critical functions such as Country / Cluster Heads, Relationship managers, Customer Delivery, Marketing, Core Products, Digital Products and the Services organization to deliver on solutions
  • Be able to influence and drive a set of cross-functional teams to support the management of key cluster acquiring relationships both from a business development (e.g. acceptance growth and value add products) and operational perspective (e.g. rules, franchise, product delivery)
  • Facilitate and accelerate introduction of new acceptance players, business models and technologies into the cluster acquiring landscape
  • Building & developing the acceptance team to function as a high performance functional unit. Drive thought leadership, strategic thinking and business case frameworks – to support New Ways to Pay & New Places to Pay as well as driving consumer adoption.
  • Support key cluster acceptance initiatives that require multi-market coordination and collaboration (e.g. Contactless, Masterpass & Masterpass QR)
  • Proactively identify and address acceptance barriers and pain points – develop models and frameworks in order to create new solutions (e.g. Pricing, Franchise, Legal, Treasury) that can help to overcome acceptance friction
  • Drive partner engagement with key acquirers on the adoption and sell-in of Mastercard value add products.
  • Identify Alliance partners and channels/opportunities that provide the most appropriate basis for acceptance and revenue growth. Drive brand preference with key customer stakeholders including regulatory engagements as required.
  • Implement & track acceptance leads to execute on the Acceptance investment strategy
  • Develop and gather training tools and programs for acquirers. Lead ad-hoc research projects, special projects, customer workshops to drive business growth.
  • Provide expertise on all acquiring matters including development & delivery of key customer facing programs. Establish and strengthen Mastercard position in market as a thought-leader and dependable partner for ‘cashless’ payments
  • This role requires engagement with senior management including country, cluster, regional & functional leads including global colleagues.

Educational/Professional Experience Requirements

  • Proven expertise in the payments business with exposure to issuance, acceptance, acquirer & merchant issues
  • Ability to work well in team environment and navigate through the global organization to develop, integrate & package the go to market product propositions
  • Commercial mindset with focus on customer and business orientation – able to quickly understand business requirements and translate them into potential business development opportunities for Mastercard
  • Numerical abilities & financial acumen, comfort in working with numbers, P&L, developing business case models.
  • Negotiation Skills and Presentation/Proposal skills with demonstrated success in organizing customer facing events, concept selling and delivering sales pitches.
  • Sales strategy development, execution, and account management. Proven track record of sales success

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced / Master’s degree preferred

First Rotation – Product Management

To oversee product evolution, establish go-to-market strategy, optimize products and resources, implement incremental improvements within the product’s life cycle, conduct ongoing care and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the analysis of internal and external stakeholder needs and issues
  • Conducts market research to inform profitability targets for a specific product

Second Rotation – Account Management

Leads and manages existing customer relationships and works to identify opportunities and customer needs. Partners with customers to deliver customized solutions and comprehensive consulting support. Responsible for pipeline management at the account level.

Responsibilities

  • Uses analytical and problem-solving skills to provide analyses and solutions that satisfy business needs and inform strategy development
  • Leverages data tools to develop revenue and expense benchmarks and performance trends
  • Supports project execution across at least one business function (e.g., business development, advertising, marketing, product management)

  • Works collaboratively across various internal teams to support a variety of business initiatives
