Your Responsibilities

As an Accounting/Finance Intern you will be provided with opportunities to develop an understanding of John Deere’s products and services, establish a network of people to support personal and professional growth, and to gain experience in one of the following areas: Factory Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Financial Analysis, Internal Audit, Tax and Treasury. Interns typically perform various professional accounting or finance projects which include coordinating, preparing, and analyzing financial information.  Projects may include some of the following:

  • Complete process improvements projects by utilizing finance automation techniques
  • Gain an understanding of useful financial software tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.)
  • Gathers, reviews, and analyzes financial information.
  • Develop professional skills through networking and interaction with Deere leaders.
  • Working cross functionally to solve business problems.

What Skills You Need

Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics or related major.

  • Minimum of 6 credit hours completed in Accounting courses by the start of the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale required.

Work Statement:  US Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Must be able to relocate domestically.  Assignments can be at various locations throughout the United States.

Due to COVID-19, the job can be done remotely for the present time subject to the manager’s direction and timeframe. Longer-term, the position will be located at the physical facility in Grovetown, GA

As an Operations Accounting Analyst for John Deere located in Grovetown, GA, you will examine factory overhead spending, prepares reconciliation of actual versus forecast, working closely with budget owners and factory leadership.  In addition, you will:

  • Be responsible for all overhead, distribution, and SA&G accounts during monthly financial closing, assuring the ledger is accurate. Prepare forecast and submission on a monthly basis
  • Through deep analysis, drive cost reduction initiatives and provide business counseling
  • Conduct Make vs. Buy, prepare Authorization for Leasing packages and, when necessary, support Capital Expenditures through DCF analysis
  • Work on ad hoc special projects related to factory spending

What Skills You Need

  • Understanding of key financial concepts such as budgets, forecasts, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • 2 or more years of work experience in finance/accounting related activities
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or equivalent, having a good understanding of the principles and the ability to independently use the knowledge
  • Excel spreadsheet proficiency with strong experience with Microsoft Office tools
  • Capable of working directly with high-level managers, as well as independent and self-driven
  • Good communicator, capable of translating numbers into something simple that non-finance people can relate to and act upon
  • Detailed oriented, analytical, data-driven, adaptable, and teachable
  • Intellectual curiosity with a positive attitude, always excited about learning new things and tackling new challenges
  • Ability to collaborate with team members

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience with SAP FICO Module
  • Experience with Internal Control and Audit processes
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and product cost controls
  • Leadership experience

Education

Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent work experience in the following:
