About the Role

Hatters Health PCN, a collaborative of 6 friendly, pro-active practices in Luton are looking to recruit additional Physicians Associates into our Multi-disciplinary Team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and well-organised Network based Physician Associate to join a dynamic team working to support diverse range of people from different cultural and social backgrounds.

As a PA you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a GP. You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice, in consultation with the duty GP. Along with same day presentations, you will help in the care and monitoring of the long term conditions. Our network has a proactive approach to supporting our frail elderly and care home patients as an integrated system with our community service. You will work with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to support the care and care planning needs of patients. We have an established training and preceptorship programme for PA’s
The responsibilities of the role include direct patient contact through assessment, examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment. You will maintain a key role in supporting delivery of network contracted services and to provide a holistic clinical service, with support from GP’s as required.

Job Purpose:

To help support practices with structured care around patients with long term conditions, including frailty.
Provide first point of contact of care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers, where applicable).
Will have direct and immediate access when needed to a GP/Doctor and work under supervision of a named GP
Review, analyse and action diagnostic test results.
Deliver integrated patient centred care through appropriate MDT working
Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems, as determined by the PCN, including management of patients with long-term conditions, screening and vaccination as well as other specialised clinics following appropriate training as required by the PCN
Undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas.
Must possess a valid driving licence.
Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients.
Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks.
Through participating in continuing professional development opportunities, keep up to date with evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD).
Develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision.
On-going training / study leave will be considered to support personal development.

About the Candidate
If you are a qualified and experienced Physician Associate looking for a new and exciting change in career then we would love to hear from you.
A Post Graduate Degree in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited PA Programme
Membership of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes UK Physician Associate Registration (the PA Managed Voluntary Register)
Current and valid certification or re-certification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination
Experience of working in a medicine environment, including preventative medicine and chronic disease management
Flexible and adaptable approach to a varied and high-volume workload with the ability to multi-task and to work under pressure
Consistently compassionate and respectful approach placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, nurses and other staff and agencies
Commitment to continuing professional development
On-going training / study leave will be considered to support personal development.
