The Medical Records Technician is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team who functions under the direction and supervision of a Supervisor.  The position provides professional, courteous, and friendly assistance to our customers. The Medical Records Technician serves as a resource for internal and external customers by utilizing a number of resources such as established Cigna policies; protocols and guidelines to ensure delivery of quality care within the guidelines of Cigna Medical Group Standard Operating Procedures, Policies, and Procedures.

This role is Worksite dependent and can only be performed onsite. You must be fully vaccinated if you’re to come onsite OR undergo testing twice a week.

Work hours- Monday- Friday- 8am-5pm. No nights or weekends

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Retrieve and distribute patient records for provider review of disability insurance claims.
  • Complete insurance forms promptly; forward to clinician for completion and signature to ensure a 7-10 business day turnaround.
  • Researches and scans all insurance forms and documents.
  • Communicates with all levels of health care clinicians (internal and external), attorneys, patients, and insurance companies regarding disability claims and requests for information.
  • Reviews requests for release of information and processes requests made by patients, attorneys, insurance companies and other health care clinicians.  Ensures compliance with state statutes and internal policies and procedures prior to processing requests.
  • Prioritizes daily work to include independent problem solving and decision making without daily supervision.
  • Maintain accurate tracking logs and retain duplicate patient files and claim forms for 30 days. Sorts and distributes mail on a daily basis.
  • Purge inactive duplicate records and claim forms, routing original, signed documents to patient medical record.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in assignments, assisting in other areas as needed; cross trains and assists in other departments as needed.
  • Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, clinicians, patients, families, as well as external contacts, such as attorneys, insurance companies, other healthcare providers and agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • One year customer service and PC skills required.
  • One year customer service in health care, typing experience preferred.
  • Ability to convey information to customers in a warm, clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service behaviors when working with customers

For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate of: $15.19 – $22.79/hour depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan
